Fit & Zip Dress - Speed and the Fast Pace of Time in Today’s Day and Age, 2011, stands next to a scientific work which examines these concepts in the context of society, of architecture and of the textiles from two do-it-yourself apparel systems for the human body, which make modularity and modifiability possible. In doing so, the body is viewed as a fixed initial shape, the purpose of which is to arrange for it to be enclosed precisely with individual parts. The garment that emerges thus, is therefore comparable to the temporary building shell of an architectural body, which, depending on the circumstances, can be rebuilt. The shape of the individual parts relies on a sectioning of the female body using horizontal and vertical lines which cross over at prominent points of the body’s surface. The do-it-yourself Fit & Zip Dress consists of sixteen basic components, which, depending on the dress size, can be extended with rectangular sections at the side and at the back and front central sections. The individual components are connected by zips. Depending on one’s preference, they can be exchanged for similar parts. Additionally, this kit enables the attachment of modules such as sleeves, or the addition of more length or the shortening of the dress by attaching or removing components. Slits and openings can be inserted as design options. The dress does not possess a predetermined interior or exterior side. This is only made possible through the use of reversible zips. This system is intended for the use of a wide range of sizes (from 36 to 46) for the female body shape. In addition to dresses of various lengths, it is possible to construct skirts, tops, jackets or other creative garments.
