Dazzling Times, Winning Project in the Ideas Competition of the Bankhaus Spängler 2018.
To celebrate its 190th anniversary, the Bankhaus Spängler is having the façade of its building on the Linzer Hauptplatz clothed in a dazzling gown: with the help of 21,855 coins, we have a sequence of numbers starting at 0 and ending at 190, extending over two floors of the building, a reference to the successful and long existence of this company. And, using the traditional theme of the “lucky penny”, it looks ahead to a positive and dynamic future. The art installation entitled Dazzling Times celebrates the aesthetics of the monetary system in its wide range of different forms over time: starting with the trade in goods, illustrated by the textile texture of the art installation, continuing with material money as a form of payment, illustrated by the coins, the references continue to the age of digitalisation where money only appears in the form of numbers represented by the arranged numbers comparable to the display panels at the stock exchange. The activities of the bank are made visible in a subtle form. It appears in a dazzling series of number-related ornaments on the outer façade of the bank’s building. What has been created is a symbiosis with the appearance of the building.
